Victoria Azarenka broke her Grand Slam duck and became the new world number one after thrashing Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open final.
The impressive Belarusian needed just 82 minutes to annihilate the 2008 Melbourne champion 6-3 6-0 as she usurped Caroline Wozniacki as the leading women's player in the world.
Azarenka started poorly and trailed 0-30 in the third game when already losing 2-0 but went on to win 12 of the next 13 games to crush the hapless Sharapova.
Azarenka was relentless as the 22-year-old completed a stunning victory, making only 12 unforced errors compared to Sharapova's 30.

Azarenka reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year but that was the only other time she had been past the last eight of a Grand Slam.
Attention now switches to Sunday's men's final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard is 1.001 to win the first Grand Slam of 2012 while Djokovic can be backed at 1.001 to retain the title he won 12 months ago.
