Former Open champion Paul Lawrie moved right into contention for a second Ryder Cup appearance by securing a four-shot victory at the Qatar Masters.
Paul Lawrie has boosted his hopes of a second appearance at the Ryder Cup.The 43-year-old Scotsman started the third and final round one shot ahead of the field and made sure of a second win in the tournament with a superb 65, with Australia's Jason Day and Sweden's Peter Hanson sharing second place.
Lawrie has moved back into the world's top 50 as a result of his win and earned a place in the 64-man Accenture World Match Play Championship later this month.
He is also in the hunt for a Ryder Cup spot, with his previous appearance against the United States coming 13 years ago, following his Open victory at Carnoustie.
"I don't think I can play much better than that," Lawrie told Sky Sports. "I've been playing well for a long, long time, but it's just nice to come out one ahead and shoot seven under."
Of his Ryder Cup hopes for later in the year, the Scot added: "If I keep playing as I am I will get in, there's no question.
"But there's a long way to go and I know as well as anyone that there are a lot of good players."
Europe are 2.00 to win the Ryder Cup match-up at Medinah Country Club in September, with the USA 2.00 and the tie 12.00.
