Herbert - Ifill deserved penalty

Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert has said that his star midfielder Paul Ifill was unfortunate not to have won a penalty in his side's 2-1 defeat of Adelaide United on Friday at Hindmarsh Stadium.

I think (Ifill was) incredibly unlucky.

Ifill was in outstanding form in the second half of the game and he should have been awarded a penalty kick after he was brought down inside the area by a Reds defender.
But match referee Gerald Parsons didn't agree with Ifill's appeal and allowed the match to continue.

That penalty kick had the potential of doubling the Phoenix lead and while they still ended up winning the game, it could have been a lot different if any of Adelaide's late attacking moves had paid off.
"I think (Ifill was) incredibly unlucky. I haven't had a chance to see the replay but (commentator) Ross Aloisi, unbiasedly, said it's in an absolute certain penalty," Herbert said at the end of the game.
"The consequence too of (Ifill) getting booked after that is just kind of bizarre.
"But the game's done and dusted and I spoke to the referee afterwards ... I just asked for a bit of feedback to be fair and open. If you make a mistake, you make a mistake.
"We all make them. It's not a witch-hunt by any stretch, it's done and dusted - it's finished and we move on," he added.
